Presents Nurses Week 2020

Nurses are recognized nationwide from May 6th-12th. It's a week to mark the contributions that nurses make to society. According to WHO, the year of 2020 has been designated to Nurses, in honor of the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. If you don't know who Florence is, just know she is the Regina George of Nursing! No, but seriously she is the founder of nursing.

Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), Known As "The lady with the lamp", was a British nurse, social reformer and statistician best known as the founder of modern nursing. Her experiences as a nurse during the Crimean War were foundational in her views about sanitation. She established St. Thomas Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses in 1860. Her efforts to reform healthcare greatly influenced the quality of care in the 19 and 20 centuries

When we were told 2020 was the year of the nurse, I dont think anyone was thinking it would be because we would be serving at the frontlines of a world pandemic. But that's the thing about us nurses, it may be tough but we are resilient and will get through this together, as a team, as a family!

As nurses we are granted the opportunity to heal the mind, body, and soul. Our days may be stressful, but throughout this hectic time in everyone's lives & in these acts of humanity we are saving lives, offering solace and aiding in the healing of our nation one day at a time. In this week, that is well deserved for us, bask in all your handwork and dedication. Remember to indulge in all the self care (free self care rewarded to us at that) needed during this time. We can not take care of others, until we take care of ourselves first! From Navigating The Bedside, we say thank you from the bottom of our heart!

We would like to also recognize a few special nursing students, as they are among those affected by this pandemic. Due to the current state of being many students are missing graduation and pinning ceremonies, which are such monumental moments in becoming a nurse. So here is a moment to let them shine bright and be acknowledged for all the handwork they put towards becoming nurses. Click the light-boxes to read about a few up-incoming nurses!

We are proud of you & congratulations!
